The new government of India has elevated the AYUSH Department to the status of the AAYUSH Ministry.
The AYUSH department, dedicated to traditional medicines in India, was until now part of the Ministry of Public Health under the control of Western medicine. Its new status as a Ministry not only contributes to enhancing traditional medical systems in the eyes of the population and within the public health system, but it also gives it room for maneuver and freedom of action which should greatly contribute to the necessary development of fundamental knowledge, quality of clinical practice and professional training, as well as advances in research.
