Second historic summit meeting for Ayurveda – WHO & AYUSH Ministry, Jamnagar, Gujarat

After the first historic WHO Consultation Meeting in 2018, a second meeting was held in 2019 in Jamnagar, Gujarat, during 5 intensive days from 26th to 29th November 2019.

A group of Indian and international experts from 22 nations and all continents gathered to work on benchmarks for Ayurveda and Unani medicine.

The Ayurveda experts had the tedious task to revise and up-grade the benchmarks for training in Ayurveda – whose first edition was published in the end of 2010 – by harmonizing it with the draft of benchmarks for clinical practice and the contents for Pancha Karma elaborated during the 2018 meeting.

Animated debates and a lot of intellectual effort went into the drafting of meaningful guidelines based on consensus.

Switzerland was one of the countries representing the European continent. Like during the first WHO meeting in 2018, Dr Simone Hunziker was nominated Rapporteur along with Dr Jorge Luis Berra from Argentina.

The WHO Benchmarks for training in Ayurveda and the WHO Benchmarks for clinical practice in Ayurveda got published during the first quarter of the year 2022.

These benchmarks represent the indispensable support in terms of reliable practical references for any government, educational or clinical institution wishing to develop and institutionalize Ayurveda as a medical system.
